Meet whitewash’s Team
Jo Alcorn,
Founder / Design Specialist

Jo on Design and Decorating:
I like to think of my design style as that of a chameleon. I am able to blend my style with my surroundings, meaning I am able to change my views to fit those existing pieces or personalities for whom I am helping . However with every design I bring a clean lined approach with balance and comfort, plus every room should have a conversational piece!
Jo’s Background:
Jo graduated with a B.A from a Liberal Arts School in New York City, during which she had the opportunity to explore Europe studying colour and architecture while attending London’s City University. With her experience from having travelled extensively and studying such a wide array of designs she is flexible to meet the needs of any challenge. Jo’s passion for design has been showcased on HGTV, Discovery Channel, CBC Steven and Chris, Breakfast Television, CityTV, Rogers Stations, Global Morning Show and many more. Her expertise has been proven as well within the film industry as a Production Designer for a handful of films. She has been running her own successful business since 2005, which caters to clients design needs. Jo has enjoyed the process of making a name for herself in the industry. She has developed a diverse client base and is most proud of being able to provide style and continuity for a range of personalities and decor preferences. One of Jo’s most proud adventures has been designing her own furniture line. Stylish environmentally friendly furniture locally made and designed on the principle of quality. She has also designed a lighting collection for Artcraft lighting that is in major lighting stores across Canada and the U.S. As well as her own paint colour with Para Paints. To add one more thing to her ever growing list, she has enjoyed the process of developing the young minds of future decorators/designers as a teacher at Humber College North Campus since 2010.
Jo is also an advocate for animal rescue groups and is the volunteer coordinator for Ontario’s Jack Russell Terrier Rescue Organization. “Think Adopt for your next best friend and help stop puppy mills everywhere!”

She then developed her business skills even further in the Corporate world when she entered the Insurance industry, obtaining her health, OTL license, plus certifications in commercial, farm and home, plus investments funds. She then moved on to the environmental world spear heading a unique environmental waste removal company. Her love for the environmental movement blossomed, knowing she wanted to do more. Velvet is now spear heading the growth and exposure of w&c’s eco friendly furniture line and Jo, her daughter’s vision to make the world greener!
Chanele Cote,
Design Assistant
Chanele on Design and Decorating:
I love to mix traditional elements and vintage finds with industrial pieces and raw materials. The greatest part of design is the ability to bring together character and history with beauty and function. I believe one should always live life creatively.
Chanele’s Background:
Chanele started her education at McMaster University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, focusing in Marketing and Environmental Sciences. Her skills in business have carried her professionally through her growing career and allowed her to explore different creative avenues. She has always been recognized as a creative individual but didn’t initially realize the ability to turn her passion into a reality. Her interest in the business world never quite lived up to her love for design and stylish living; she then began exploring her passion by continuing her education in Interior Decorating at Humber College. There, she was fortunate to learn from Jo Alcorn, one of the brightest new stars in today’s design world. They got along famously and soon after Chanele became the trusted Design Assistant to Jo’s Whitewash & Co team.
Chanele was born in Oakville, Ontario. She grew up in the heart of a small town with Victorian influences and local charm. After graduating she moved to the big city, bought an Industrial Loft and now calls exposed beams, rustic brick, and polished concrete her “home sweet home”. Her design blog is full of inspiring ideas; stylish products, decor trends and DIY projects that she’s undertaken in her own home. For fun, she can be found hanging by the dock and wakeboarding at the cottage or exploring the city.

“Well Jo … I just did a walk through … and wow … amazing. I cannot believe how much you have me pegged … I love it all! I would not have made my home look so beautiful without you. I don’t know if you remember this or not, but when I first met you, and then told you we decided to buy a new house, and you came for the first time, I said to you something like “I want people to say WOW … I want to love my house!” Well, you have definitely have done that, and even more. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!!“
The Ward family!
“Hi Jo,
I just wanted to send you a little note to thank you so much for your time yesterday. I was feeling so overwhelmed and deflated thinking that the design challenges in our home couldn’t be solved. Not only were you a breath of fresh air, your sunny disposition was infectious! You creatively and practically made suggestions that I know we can tackle. I think that’s what I appreciated about you the most, you didn’t have crazy, unrealistic, EXPENSIVE idea’s. We’re a family with two small children and need our home to be trendy but also practical. You zeroed in on my taste in but a matter of moments and I just loved every one of your recommendations. I am now excited and looking forward to making those changes. I am so glad to have met you, I’ve already spoken to dozens of friends who were awaiting my feedback, I’ve joined Whitewash & Co’s group on Facebook and won’t hesitate to recommend you to anyone I can. “
Kind regards, Candice, Jamie, Zoe & Zachary
